Degree in music therapy?

I have been looking at various majors and have been trying to find one that I have a serious, dedicated interest in. So far, I have found a couple of majors that I like, but nothing that I can see as being the perfect career at this point. Anyway, I heard of music thereapy and thought that was the exact combination of each of my interests and goals. I was wondering if anybody here has worked in music therapy or has any type of information about it (especially concerning the availablity and types of jobs); I did some searches online but I couldn’t really find any information.

Thanks for any help everyone! :)

    Hi there,

I’m glad you are interested in Music Therapy. The previous responder to your question couldn’t be more wrong. Music therapy is a growing profession, with a continuously growing body of research to support it. There are plenty of jobs for music therapists, though much advocacy needs to be done to educate people about the benefits of music therapy. Music therapists work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, nursing homes, schools, rehabilitation centers, even prisons. Check out the following links for more information. The first is a list of academic programs in the US and Canada that offer degrees in music therapy. The next one is a link to the Certification Board of Music Therapy and the final one is to the American Music Therapy Association. I hope this helps!
