Young at Heart Project aims to provide the magic and therapeutic benefits of live professional musical entertainment for senior populations confined by age and infirmity in convalescent and residential care facilities throughout the Central Coast and South Bay Communities. How Young at Heart Project Began The inspiration for Young at Heart Project came to founder Sean Seman while he was performing an impromptu concert at a rest home. An elderly man, who had not spoken for two years, erupted into song during the performance, much to the amazement of the hospital staff. Having witnessed first hand the positive effects of musical performance for seniors, Seman became serious about bringing lively and uplifting entertainment to seniors when his aunt moved into a residential care facility. He created Young at Heart Project to enrich the lives of seniors. Established in 1985, Young at Heart Project, a non-profit Corporation, depends on support from foundations, individuals, businesses and concerned community leaders who wish to improve the quality of life for seniors in convalescent care. Guest artists are chosen from the ranks of professional musicians currently appearing in venues from San Francisco to Monterey. Young at Heart Project performers must not only demonstrate a high degree of technical competency, but also a desire to provide a vibrant and ever changing repertoire specific to senior audiences.
